Guitarist and composer Albare (pronounced Al Bear) is back in Australia now where he will heavily promote his newest CD, an excellent sextet production recorded very recently in New York. The ensemble is iTD (International Travel Diary) and it’s a “tribute to the human spirit of adventure. There are African, Middle-Eastern and South-European flavours here, diverse sounds, melodies and rhythms. All interwoven and fused with the Jazz heritage.”

Albare (aka Albert Dadon) was born in Morocco, came to Israel at age 5 where lived for several years until at age 10 the family relocated to Lyon, France from where he emigrated to Australia at age 27. He started playing the guitar with eight years, in Australia he first nade his name as a pioneer of acid jazz. Today he performs and records worldwide under the name Albare. He has a manifold relationship with jazz: invited the Umbria Jazz Festival (Italy) three times to Melbourne, is friends with Sonny Rollins and was tight with Ray Brown. In 2011 Matthias Winckelmann met with Albare in Corsica, they discussed a top production in New York with hand picked musicians, Albare and Evri wrote the music, the project was produced in January 2012 and a surprising, truly rewarding album saw the light of day.

The line up:
Hendrik Meurkens, this virtuoso of the harmonica regularly wins the international critics’ polls with his own recordings. He was born in Germany and has been based in New York for twenty years now.
George Garzone worked with many jazz greats like Michael Brecker, Jack DeJohnette, Danilo Perez, J. Tacuma, John Abercrombie, Kenny Barron and Chick Corea, Joe Lovano Nonet. He teaches at the Berklee College where his students included Branford Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Mark Turner, Donny McCaslin.
Leo Genovese, the Argentinian born child of the 70ties embraces experimental forms, having studied classical and contemporary music at home before moving to Boston where he attended the Berklee College (same class as German pianist Florian Weber). From performances at Carnegie Hall to touring with Esperanza Spalding, Leo’s prowess transforms and takes on many guises stretching out to the Chromatic Gauchos, a powerful avant-garde ensemble.
Evripidis Ervipidou (short: Evri) studied mandolin, piano, clarinet, sax, guitar and bass in his native Cyprus. At age 15 he migrated to Australia. Influenced by the Mediterranean culture’s rhythms and melodies, the free spirit of jazz, the discipline and the elegance of classical and flamenco music he found his sound through his compositions and performance on a wide selection of six- and seven string bass guitars.
Antonio Sanchez, three times Grammy Award winner was born in 1971 in Mexico City. He is one of the most-in-demand drummers in the international scene today who works with Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Charlie Haden, Dianne Reeves and also the younger generation like Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, David Sanchez, Avishai Cohen, and Miguel Zenon.

Alabare’s sextet iTD will concertize on the four Australian festivals in June 2012. Most impressed by bassist extraordinaire Renaud García-Fons, he managed to invite him to 2 of the festivals as well. More European concerts incl. the Red Sea Festival in Israel to follow later in the year.

Der Gitarrist und Komponist Albare (Albert Dadon) ist wieder zurück in Melbourne, Australien wo er seine neueste CD in Kürze vorstellt, eine hervorragende Sextett Produktion die vor kurzem in New York aufgenomen wurde. Die Gruppe ist iTD (International Travel Diary) und sollte nach Albare’s Auskunft gesehen werden „als ein Tribut an den menschlichen Abenteuergeist. Diese Musik erinnert und erkundet meine vielfältige Herkunft und auch Evri’s der im Alter von 15 Jahren von Zypern nach Australien kam. Sie hat afrikanische, mittel-östliche und süd-europäische Anklänge, Melodien und Rhythmen – verbunden und zusammengehalten durch das Jazz Erbe.“

In Marokko geboren, kam Albare im Alter von 5 Jahren nach Israel und später im Alter von 10 nach Lyon, Frankreich wo er aufwuchs und lebte bis er mit 27 nach Australien auswanderte. Mit 8 Jahren begann er Gitarre zu spielen (eigentlich hatt er sich ein Akkordeon von seine Muter gewünscht wofür aber das Geld zuhause zu knapp war). In Australien wurde er bald ein erfolgreicher Unternehmer in der Entwicklung privater Wohnimmobilien und etablierte sich gleichzeitg als Pionier des Acid Jazz. Er nahm 6 Schallplatten auf, eine davon mit dem Bassisten Ray Brown mit dem er lange befreundet war, wie er es auch mit Sonny Rollins ist.
Die Gitarre verlor trotz weltweitem business nie aus den Augen, er tritt unter dem Namen Albare (englisch ausgesprochen) zu Hause in Australien und auch international regelmäßig auf Festivals und in Jazzclubs auf. Er ist vielfach mit dem Jazz verbunden - so lud er dreimal das italienische Umbria Jazz Festival nach Melbourne ein, veranstaltete ein einwöchiges „Italian Festival“ im Birdland in New York. 2011 traf Matthias Winckelmann Albare auf Korsika, sie diskutierten eine New Yorker Produktion mit Topkünstlern. Albare und Evri schrieben die Musik, Im Januar 2012 wurde produziert und es entstand eine überraschende Aufnahme.

Die Rhythmen und Melodien der mediterranen Kultur, die frische Luft des Jazz und die Disziplin des Flamenco und der Klassik beeinflussten den Sound seiner Konzerte und seiner Kompositionen für eine Auswahl an sechs- und siebensaitigen elektrischen Bassgitarren.

Albare’s Sextet wird im Juni 2012 auf allen grossen australischen Festivals auftreten wozu er auch den französischen Bassisten Renaud García-Fons eingeladen hat. Große Festivals in Europa und Israel sind zugesagt.
