DANIEL SCHNYDER

Swiss Daniel Schnyder has been crossing borders between jazz and modern classical music for several years. Down Beat contributor Kevin Whitehead: " The way he fusions the harmonic and rhythmic structures of jazz with polyphonic horn- and string settings is closer to Bach than to Dixieland." Schnyder activities as " serious" composer have been documented on several Cds. His works have been performed by established ensembles (such as the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich, Australian Chamber Orchestra) and recently several new compositions saw the daylight (his Shakespearean opera Tempest, his 4th symphony, and several chamber music compositions.)
Daniel Schnyder the saxophonist and flutist has come out with several CD on ENJA - in format ranging from the 2 horn frontline to nine or ten piece bands plus string section. He has done severalk large form arrangements - Franco Ambrosetti's " Music for Symphony and Jazz Band", Lee Konitz' Strings for Holiday" and he is currently working on a project that will present the music of South African pianist / composer Abdullah Ibrahim in a symphonic context.
Daniel Schnyder lives and works in New York.
